I got back yesterday from an incredible trip to Thailand and Cambodia with my husband. We went to Bangkok, Koh Lanta, and Siem Reap with stops at the Hong Kong International Airport. (I had wanted to fly through Narita so I could hit the Tokyo airport for a quick shop between flights. When we added up the travel hours, Narita tacked on a few extra hours each way so I agreed to Hong Kong for our transfer. Trust me, I didn't succumb easily.)
One of my favorite things to do in other countries is hit the supermarkets, drug stores, and if they have them, beauty counters looking for fun new products. I got some really fun goodies at a mall called Paragon in Bangkok. This mall had everything, from a bowling alley, to a gym, to car dealerships. Need a Lamborghini? Hit the Paragon mall.... When we were at the Bangkok airport I saw an ad for Alexander Wang makeup and I broke into a cold sweat. I had to find it. Sadly, no one at the beauty counters knew what I was talking about. Turns out he did a collection for Shiseido (only in the Asia markets) and it was released this past summer. I managed to get the beautiful skin luminating powders, but the rest of the good stuff was sold out. So sad.
The other fantastic line they had was RMK, a line by Rumiko, a very talented makeup artist. The only other place I've seen this line sold was in London (at Harrods or Selfridges). RMK has fantastic brushes, and I scooped up a bunch. Super soft and great shapes.
The upside of going through Hong Kong was hitting a massive MUJI shop. I love their simple elegant designs and I am obsessed with their cotton swabs. The cotton is so tightly wound and they are tiny, making them perfect for cleaning up eye makeup, mascara smudges, an overzealous lip line... I bought all of the cotton swabs they had. Exciting!
