Get the Look with mark. : Kim Kardashian on the Cover of ALLURE magazine

With this post I am starting a new blog series called "Get the Look with mark.", where I show you how to recreate some of my favorite looks from magazine using all mark. products.  These are images from shoots that I love; from cover shoots to advertising to incredible editorial beauty images.

Please note: I did not work on any of the original images, only the recreations. (for full credits, see the bottom of the post) These pictures are culled from my inspiration image library.  They are go to images for me, pictures that make me want to grab my makeup brushes and get painting!

I'll be giving step by step breakdowns for recreating the makeup.  I hope you have as much fun reading it as I did doing the makeup!

For my first post, I thought I would cover a beautiful image of Kim Kardashian.  Kim clearly loves to play with makeup, but what drew me to this picture was her deconstructed beauty.  She still has the signature smokey eye and nude lip, but it's a more stripped down version.  She looks raw and sexy, which I love.

A lovely model named Chaya (represented by Vision Models) filled in as my Kim Kardashian muse for the shoot.  After moisturizing Chaya's skin, I dabbed on Got the Goods Multi -Benefit Foundation in Medium #7  at the outer edges of her face, and used the same formula in Light #4 for the center of her face; along the bridge of her nose, the forehead, cheeks and chin.  Using a foundation brush and damp sponge, I blended the foundation out towards the hairline and jaw.  I love using a brush in conjunction with the sponge for a flawless finish.  I know some people love to use their fingers, but I love the control I have using tools.  I just find it more precise.  I used two different colors to create contour and highlights, before I even applied anything else.  Creating depth is a key element to this look, as it's a very simple, bronzy look.

Next I used concealer, but not where you'd think.  I actually went with a concealer several shades darker than the darkest tone in her skin and used it for contouring the cheekbones.  I swiped a bit of Save the Day Anti Acne Concealer Stick in Deep from the center of the ears towards the mouth, just a soft stripe, and then blended it with a damp sponge.

PRO TIP: I use the foundation brush that already has product on it to blend the contour color.  Having a bit of the lighter color already on the brush helps the colors transition more easily and makes blending a breeze.

For a soft, luminous glow I used the Just Brilliant Face and Eye Luminizer along the bridge of the nose and tops of the cheekbones before I set the skin with Set Things Right Loose Powder in Medium.  Once the skin was set, I swept Glowdacious Illuminating Powder in Amped Up over her cheekbones in lieu of blush. The bronzer gave a beautiful sun kissed glow to the skin.

I filled Chaya's brows in a bit, just so they would be a touch darker, using I-mark Wet/Dry Eye Shadow in Tabac (a matte taupe-y brown).  Then I brushed the brows up and set them with a clear gel.  A finished brow is important, it frames the eyes and keeps the look polished and clean looking.  I cannot stand an unruly brow!

PRO TIP: You can also spray a bit of hairspray on a spooly (or a clean, old mascara wand) and use that to set your brows.

The eyes for this look are softly smoky, no liner, just shadow.  First I swept I-mark. Wet/Dry Eyeshadow in Tiki over the whole lid, blending up towards the brows.  Then I used Moss on the lid and under the lower lashes.  I went from end to end under the lower lashes so the shadow looks almost like, well, a shadow, from her lashes.  It gives dimension and depth without looking harsh.  To add a little more depth on the upper lid, I brushed Plum Velvet near the lash line, fading the color into the existing color I already applied.  To pop on a highlight, I used the lightest color in the Touch and Glow Shimmer Cream Cubes All Over Face Palette right over the pupil and on the inner corners of the eyes.  I curled the lashes and swept on two coats of Scanda-Lash Hook Up Mascara in Black, top and bottom, really pushing the product into the lashes for a lush lash.

I mixed Full Color Lipstick in Bare Hug and Toasty and slicked on a light coat of Glow Baby Glow Luxe Hook Up Lipgloss in Sun Luxe for that kissable Kardashian pout!

Hope you had a fun time reading this, and I would love to see your version of this look!  Please send me images via twitter @fionastiles.
