Ernest Supplies Cooling Shave Gel
Ernest Supplies Cooling Shave Gel
Why you need it:
A foamless, deeply moisturizing shaving cream that feels cooling and refreshing on the skin while giving you the closest shave possible without gunking up your razor. It also works as a pre- and post- shave oil so it really functions as 3 products in 1.
Why I love it:
Ok, so I don't shave my face, so I can't speak directly to how awesome this shaving cream is on my face, but I have been having my husband test out shaving creams and oils for the past 3 years and this is the first one he said he really loves. The man has proper stubble and super sensitive skin so he can really speak to the efficacy of this. That said, I have stolen it from him to use on my legs and in a word, it feels wonderful.
It sort of has the consistency of conditioner. They formulated it so that it doesn't foam since foam is really nothing but air and doesn't actually help you get a close shave. So instead of foam they loaded up the gel with super-high quality moisturizers like avocado, jojoba seed, macadamia nut, wheat germ, coconut, passion fruit seed, rice bran, acai and babassu seed oils. They've also used natural anti-redness and anti-inflammatory ingredients like aloe and allantoin to soothe skin, post-shave, like an aftershave would making it multifunctional and eliminating the need for other products.
The formula is meant to be a bit more like the consistency of conditioner, and was designed to be highly moisturizing and to create a protective barrier to shield your skin from irritation caused by your razor blade without putting tons of foam between your beard and the razor blade. Plus the cooling effects of the eucalyptus and menthol feel amazing on the skin.
And here's what Ernest Supplies has to say about foaming shave creams versus their shaving cream....
"Here’s the thing about foam – it’s caused by a chemical reaction brought about once the product is dispensed into your hand or onto your face. Foam is air. Air does nothing to protect your skin from a razor blade. Further, the chemicals used to create that foam can prove to be irritating to certain skin types. The fact of the matter is that foam is little more than a marketing gimmick that was developed in the early 50’s when companies began selling “brushless” shaving products. The foam was meant to mimic the look and feel of the lather guys were used to creating themselves with a bar of soap and a badger brush. Perhaps most annoying, foam also clogs your razor blade and makes it difficult to shave with precision."
